With the movie ‘Rock On’, people have suddenly started talking about rock a lot more but I am not sure how much will it help the Indian rock scenario. Though personally, I had been waiting for long for a movie like this. A movie, which will connect with, rockers like me but also with people who are not familiar with this genre.
Again back to my question, is it really going to help the rock scene in India? For me B’lore has always been the rock capital of India. But off late, everything is not the same with the city. I had a chance to speak to a friend of mine in B’lore and he informed me about ban on live music and dancing in places that serve alcohol. To add further to the injury, any public entertainment place playing loud music is asked to shut. This is a big blow to the music scene to the city, as most of these places provided a stage for upcoming bands in and around the city.
Now imagine the plight of an upcoming band trying to make its presence felt in a genre, which already has very low acceptance in the country. I still remember my good old B’lore days when most pubs and public platforms gave opportunity to the budding artists to perform live in front of, if not a large, a modest crowd.
Talking about platform, I remember ‘Sunday Jam’ being one of the most popular movements for such budding musicians where bands would come and perform on every first Sunday of the month.
The musicians are now looking at other alternatives. They are trying to seek permission to perform in a small portion of one of the parks of the city, which was once used to stage such performances.
